The sintering density is determined by the powder, formed body, debinding state, sintering temperature, time, atmosphere and alloy system. It is necessary to establish a checking sequence according to the process.
Interpret the relationships between variables, not a single parameter
Check for insufficient sintering densification from the green body, powder, debinding, temperature, time, atmosphere and material system.
Starting from the green body before entering the furnace
Powder packing, solids loading, molding uniformity and the density of green or debound parts determine the starting condition for sintering.
The sintering regime must match the material
Temperature, holding time, heating and cooling processes and atmosphere will affect densification, carbon and oxygen control, phase change and grain size. Different grades cannot be directly applied to the same window.
Density to be linked to part properties
Ultimately, porosity, size, surface, hardness, strength and corrosion resistance should all be looked at simultaneously, rather than just pursuing a single density number.
