APPLICATION SUMMARYApplication notes

Small valve and pump components must be evaluated for fluid corrosion, wear, sealing, pressure, temperature and dimensions. Compare 440C, 17-4PH, 439 or custom stainless steel powder according to the service conditions.

APPLICATION GUIDE

Engineering focus: Stainless steel powder for valves and pumps

Review the material, particle-size, process and validation factors that matter for this application.

Part requirementsMaterial or process directionSelection guidance
Working conditionsMedium, pressure, temperature and movement mode

The corrosion and wear mechanisms of different valve and pump parts are different.

Material direction440C, 17-4PH, 439 or customized

Choose between hardness, strength, corrosion resistance and cost.

Sealing performancePorosity, dimensions, grinding and surface treatment

The state of the finished product directly affects leakage and life.

01

First define the medium and movement method

The corrosion and wear mechanisms of static housings, sliding valve cores, spherical seals and rotary pump parts are different and need to account for media, temperature, pressure and particle contamination.

02

Compare hardness, strength and corrosion resistance

440C favors hardness and wear resistance, 17-4PH favors strength and corrosion resistance balance, 439 can be discussed in the direction of specific corrosion resistance and thermal cycling; the actual selection still needs to combine sealing and longevity.

03

Porosity and surface determine sealing performance

Sinter density, interconnected pores, grinding and surface treatment may affect leakage, wear and corrosion resistance, and precision sealing parts require specified finished product inspection methods.

Suitable part characteristics

Part requirements to evaluate first

  • Valve cores, valve seats, small pump parts and fluid control parts
  • Projects that also focus on wear, corrosion and sealing
Confirm before selecting the material

Also consider these manufacturing conditions

  • Media, particle contamination, pressure, temperature and life
  • Density, leakage, surface and dimensional testing methods
